So why did we want an observatory? There were 2 main reasons. First, there was about 15 minutes of setup time per observing session (hauling tripod, 50 pound telescope, accessories outside, then leveling and polar alignment). Second, the best time to observe is the winter. With 30 minutes of setup and take down time, a 10-15 minute session didn't always seem worthwhile.
